A new multicultural hair salon has opened its doors in Stirling city centre.
50 Shades Hair & Beauty is based at 50, Barnton Street and offers high quality hair and beauty services tailored to meet the unique needs of the city’s diverse community.
The salon was established by entrepreneur Ade Olewadare who spotted a gap in the market for a salon specialising in afro and textured hair types.
He says: “I realised there was no salon providing specific services for textured and afro hair in Stirling and wanted to change that.
I have family and friends who have been relying on home services for cutting and styling and I knew other people who were travelling into Glasgow to find a salon which caters for their hair.
I thought somewhere like Stirling which has a diverse population and a university with many international students should have a multicultural hair salon and so I decided to set up the business.”
Earlier this year, Ade secured premises at 50 Barnton Street – which were previously home to hair salon Hunky Dory Hair Design – and gathered together a team of talented stylists and barbers before 50 Shades opened its doors on Saturday July 1.
The name was chosen to reflect the fact the business caters for all shades and styles of hair and to highlight its base at number 50 on Barnton Street. Ade was also able to secure a phone number which ends 505050.
He says: “At 50 Shades, we look after all hair types and having a salon in Stirling means people with afro hair no longer have to travel to another city to find what they need.
We’ve been open for 3 months now and everything is going well with our client base building steadily as we spread awareness about our new venture.
This is my first business involving hair styling and I’m enjoying the experience although learning about hair and telling people all about it is pushing me out of my comfort zone a little!”
50 Shades currently employs four hair stylists and two barbers with more expected to join the team in the coming months as the business grows.
The salon specialises in Afro hair, Caucasian hair, Balayage and Gents’ Hair and the stylists pride themselves on their ability to cater to a wide range of hair types, textures and styles.
They provide personalised consultations in a welcoming and inclusive environment and are well-versed in the latest hair trends and techniques.
Services at 50 Shades include haircuts, braids, locs, Dutch braids, styling, colouring, hair extensions, relaxers, perms, hair treatments, make-up application and facials. The stylists are also skilled in creating modern and classic looks for men and provide a range of services such as cuts, styling, beard trims and grooming treatments.
