Award-winning footcare practice Stirling Podiatry has been an integral part of Stirling’s healthcare community for the past 14 years.
Based at Maxwell Place, the clinic offers a wide range of podiatric treatments and the team pride themselves on high levels of customer service.
The practice was established by Emma McConnachie in 2005 with clinics in Glasgow and Dunfermline before she relocated her Glasgow clinic to Stirling in 2009.
Demand for her services grew rapidly and Emma gradually expanded the business taking on associate podiatrists who are now part of a talented seven- strong podiatry team.
Emma says: “Our treatments and services cover anything and everything to do with feet. Traditionally we treated issues such as verrucas and ingrowing toenails, but now the public are much more aware of the full scope of what we do including minor surgery, sports injuries, ankle injuries and wound care.
We offer a wide range of services and usually have two to three podiatry clinics running every day. We have a good team of podiatrists who all have different skillsets and interests – we all cover general practice but then have our own specialisms.
For example, musculoskeletal podiatrist Katie Reilly has a Postgraduate Certificate in Podiatric Sports Medicine and is a former professional footballer who specialises in sports injuries. We also have specialists in diabetes footcare and in wound management – we cover a whole spectrum of different skillsets and all work together collaboratively.
Emma qualified in Podiatry after studying at Queen Margaret University College and initially worked for Boots Footcare in Glasgow before opening her own business.
After moving to Stirling, she designed the Maxwell Place practice as a healthcare hub which originally offered a variety of services such as physiotherapy and reflexology but Emma found that podiatry was in the highest demand.
She gradually built up the podiatry side of the clinic and was proud to see Stirling Podiatry become the first practice in the Forth Valley area to achieve the Royal College of Podiatry Practice Accreditation Award.
The honour is only awarded to practices which achieve the gold standard of podiatric care.
Stirling Podiatry was also recently awarded the Podiatry Clinic of the Year Award for Stirlingshire (Prestige Awards) for the second year running. And earlier this year, the team were finalists in Go Forth Stirling’s Business Awards in the Professional Services category.
Emma says: “We won the Prestige Award for Podiatry Clinic of the Year 2022-3 and just recently found out we have won it again for 2023-4 which is fantastic. We were also very proud to make it into the top three at the Stirling Business Awards in the Professional Services sector which is a large category.”
She adds: “I’ve very much enjoyed being a businessperson in Stirling for the last 14 years since we opened. It is the perfect location and has a great podiatry community where everybody gets on well and works together.”
In addition to her clinical work, Emma is a media spokesperson for the Royal College of Podiatry and is the resident podiatrist for BBC Radio Scotland’s Weekly Health Surgery show appearing every six weeks to talk about footcare issues and give expert advice.
She also makes regular media appearances offering footcare tips and advice in a variety of publications plus television and radio slots worldwide.
Emma and her team of podiatrists welcome all inquiries about foot issues and their website – www.stirlingpodiatry.com – includes details of all seven podiatrists and their interests and specialisms.
There are also full details of the services offered which include General Footcare such as nail maintenance, corn and callus removal, verrucae treatment and help with ingrown toenails; Musculoskeletal Treatment for joint, bone and muscle pain plus sports injuries; Junior Footcare for youngsters aged 15 and under who need help with problems like verrucae and Advanced Treatment which covers specialist surgical and fungal treatments.
