Students from the University of Stirling learned vital lessons about the impact poor eyesight can have on your studies, during their recent ‘Refreshers’ events.
Specsavers Stirling joined the activity programme which takes place in the middle of the academic year and is designed to provide a social boost and help students recharge and stay connected.
Julie Pritchard, ophthalmic director at the local opticians, said it also provided the perfect opportunity to encourage students to take stock of their eye health.
She says: “We have been supporting the University of Stirling’s events for 15 years and we aim to spread an important message in a fun and engaging way.
“Students will often see in increase in screen time or strain their eyes in other ways, like studying in low light. Some may be trying to struggle along without glasses or have the wrong prescription – potentially missing vital information as they try to follow whiteboards or presentations.
“The impact poor eye health can have on your studies can’t be underestimated. As students reach this mid-point in their studies, pressures may be increasing, so it’s an opportune moment to remind them to look after their eyes.”
It’s the second time this term that staff from the Stirling opticians have dropped by the university, having attended Freshers Week at the start of the academic year.
The event was attended by more than 2,000 people – and Julie said the Specsavers Stirling stall was a huge hit because they made sure it provided plenty of fun alongside a serious message.
Freebies worth thousands of pounds were given out to students, from tote bags, pens, sweets and bottle openers to confectionery and more.
Students also clamored to take part in their popular Spin the Wheel game which provided the chance to scoop an eyecare voucher providing generous discounts.
The optical experts also organised free contact lens trials for students who wanted to explore alternatives to glasses and discussed swimming goggles for the university’s sports enthusiasts.
If you experience any changes to your vision or eye health, you should book an
appointment to see an optometrist as soon as possible.
Specsavers Stirling is located at 23-25 Murray Place and is easily reachable by car, foot, or public transport.
